PROJECT OVERVIEW

For this project, the scope of work included furnishing and installing steel sheet piles, whalers, and tie rods for the support of excavation in preparation for the development of the new Belmont Arena in Queens.

WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX

A project of such magnitude as a stadium implies a lot of activity and an extremely busy construction site. The biggest challenge that Big River encountered was coordination with the many subcontractors and trades on site. In addition, the nature of the soils, tight compact sands, created an operational challenge by slowing down the vibration of the steel sheets.

HOW WE SOLVED IT

Bringing in the larger scale equipment helped push the steel sheets through the dense strata and subsurface material. As always, communication with the General Contractor was key in completing this project successfully. Thanks to diligent coordination with the trades on site, Big River was able to maintain the job on budget, on schedule, safe and on target.
